FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Why should I hire an interior designer?
Simply put, interior designers help clients create homes that align with their lifestyle and aesthetic. When you hire Interior Dimensions, you are also tapping into decades of experience, carefully cultivated relationships with local trade professionals, and our depth and breadth of knowledge. We are National Kitchen Bath Association, NKBA, certified kitchen and bath designer and Certified Aging In place, CAPS, aging in place specialist. We pride ourselves on helping your project run smoothly from start to finish, providing excellent customer service and creating solutions for your functional and safety needs. In addition to our design services, we are dealers for semi and custom cabinetry.
What is decorating, and how is it different from design?
Design is related to the structure and layout of a space, while planning for the overall function of the room including cabinet components. Décor is the furniture, accessories, rugs, window treatments and art that bring a home to life. While we always design with a fully developed concept in mind, at this time, we provide full-service décor services for existing kitchen and bath clients only.
Who is our ideal client?
Luckily, we have many types of ideal clients, from the spatially minded engineers to creative, deeply feeling artists. We can meet clients where they are and speak to the different cares and concerns of our diverse client base.
Our clients dream of beautiful, functional homes, though cannot always visualize the changes, and get overwhelmed by all the decisions to be made. They want to be involved in and enjoy the process, but they also understand that as design professionals, our advice and insight can be trusted. We always have your best interests at heart.
Timely communication with our clients is critical throughout the entire design process. If the main decision maker is unable to respond to calls or emails within 72 hours due to career or personal matters, we request that the design process begin when your availability allows for full attention to the project.
When should I get a contractor involved?
Our preference is to immediately begin working collaboratively with the build team (contractor and architect) from the project outset. This is the absolute best way to ensure that our expertise is maximized for your new home or remodel project. We always take your 2D floor plan and create 3D visuals, which brings to light a lot of things that may otherwise have been overlooked.
If we are brought on after the build team (contractor and architect) has developed your structural and permit plans, we will space plan within those parameters.
Clients also come to us without a contractor in mind. If the project does not need structural plans, Interior Dimensions will begin developing the aesthetic and functional concept. Once we have a final concept determined, we provide you with a plan so you can begin interviewing contractors. Contractors can use our concept plan to provide you with a ballpark project cost before they begin estimating. If you have structural changes in mind, we will refer you to a structural engineer for a feasibility study before creating our design concepts
How long does the design process take?
This will depend on your type and size of project. It will take approx. 6-8 weeks to develop a primary bath or kitchen plans and the material scope outline. If you have more rooms in the project, the time could be an additional 3-4 weeks longer.
How much will interior design cost for a remodel or a new construction project?
Our in-home or design studio initial consultations are $350. Out-of-town consultations are $500. After we learn more and have a clear understanding of your project, we create a design agreement based on your project.
Our minimum design fee for a small room project is $3,000. If you are remodeling a primary bath or kitchen, our design fee starts at $5,000. If more rooms are included in your project scope, the design agreement will reflect those additional costs.
How do you bill?
We invoice at the beginning and the end of your project, depending on which design package you select. Our design agreement states the payment terms. Clients can pay their invoice by check or credit card, which is subject to a 3% processing fee.
